Oscar Pistorius sentenced to 6years in prison for murder of his girlfriend

The double amputee olympic gold medalist was today handed down a
six year jail term over the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. This comes after an earlier court ruling of manslaughter was over ruled by a higher court.

Oscar's jail term was however considered really short for a murder conviction. The preceeding Judge - Thokozile Masipa- in a bid to explain her leniency to the court in Johannesburg said, "He's a fallen hero, he's lost his career and he's ruined financially. The worst is that having taken life of a fellow human being in the manner that he did he cannot be at peace. Recovery is possible, but it will depend mostly on the accused." Furthermore, the South African judge added, "It must be one of the most difficult things for any accused to have to face the victims of his crime and to apologize."

Reeva's parents wiped away tears as the sentence was read. Oscar, meanwhile, sat stoically as Thokozile issued her ruling, after which he embraced his family and left to begin his jail term. His lawyers announced outside the court room that there will be no appeal of the judgement as he intends to serve his sentence. However he may be released after two years on the account of good behaviour.
